Despite the fact that Daniel Craig will be sticking around as 007 for at least two more movies, it’s been reported that Idris Elba – best known for his roles on HBO’s The Wire and Ridley Scott’s Prometheus – has met with Bond franchise queen Barbara Broccoli to discuss the role.

That’s according to Skyfall Bond girl Naomie Harris, anyway, who let this interesting little titbit slip during an interview with The Huffington Post.

“I didn’t realize that there was this talk [about a black Bond], and then I did a film with Idris, and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli.”

“And that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy.”

Ol’ Barbara isn’t going to be very happy.

Of course, it’s a relatively vague statement, given the fact that Harris doesn’t state a particular reason why Elba met with Broccoli. It could have been at the supermarket, for all we know. Then again, Barbara isn’t involved with any other film productions, so for what possible reason might she want a date with Elba?

Future Bond villain, perhaps? An ally for Daniel Craig’s agent, even?

What are your thoughts on this rumor? Could you see Idris Elba as the next Bond? As far as we’re concerned, he’s about as suave as they get.
