What Is Target’s Return Policy in 2026?

We took a peek at their policy to help you get a snapshot.

Target’s return policy for 2026 is pretty straightforward: you’ve got 90 days, from the moment you receive your order,  to bring back most unopened items in new condition for a refund or exchange. It’s a pretty standard window for most of your everyday purchases.

If you’re a Target Circle Card holder, you get 30 extra days to return almost anything you bought with your Circle Card. Speaking of great perks, if you’re not completely satisfied with any Target-owned brand item, you can return it within a year with your receipt for an exchange or refund. However, that extra 30 days for Circle Card holders doesn’t apply to these Owned Brand items.

Now, some items have a shorter return window. Electronics and most entertainment items, like video games, need to be returned within 30 days. Apple and Beats products have a tighter 14-day period. If you’re buying a mobile phone with a carrier contract, you might face early termination fees, and Target might charge a restocking fee unless the phone is unopened. It’s always best to return contract items at a physical store with the help of a Target Tech Rep.

There are exceptions, of course

You can’t return trading cards, their accessories, or open or defective collectibles like special edition dolls or action figures. Personalized items and digital downloads are also non-returnable. Lastly, for hygiene reasons, opened or unsealed breast pumps cannot be returned; you’ll need to contact the manufacturer directly for those. Another thing that can’t be returned. Gift cards. Opened media products, software, and Airbeds can only be exchanged for the same title.

Items sold by Target Plus Partners have a slightly different policy. Most unopened items from these partners must be returned within 30 days. All Target Plus Partner items need to be returned to Target, either in-store or by mail. Just make sure you have your receipt. The only non-returnable item from a Target Plus Partner is perfumes.

If you don’t have your receipt, don’t fret! Target can often look up purchases made with a Target Circle Card or other major credit cards. You can also find return barcodes and receipts through your Target account or the Target app. If a receipt lookup isn’t possible, you might receive a refund in the form of a merchandise return card.

Of course, it all finally comes down to the money. Refunds usually go back to your original payment method within two-five days. Know that returns through the mail will take seven to ten additional days. Another common question is about gifts; those returns will always result in a GiftCard. Despite changes to the corporate structure, you can always contact customer care for additional help.
