Flying is almost always a stressful ordeal but for one woman on TikTok, her trip turned into a nightmare after she arrived at the airport to check in for her flight only to be informed by American Airlines staff that she had been put on a no-fly list. Turns out she’d allegedly had sexual relations with a man while on a flight despite the fact she’s gay.
TikToker Erin Wright took to the video sharing platform in 2024 to vent and share her frustrating story after having to spend thousands of extra dollars on another flight only for her to ultimately be refused for that flight too. She explains that she was unable to check in for the flight prior to arrival and upon reaching the check in desk she was informed that she was on a no-fly list despite never having knowingly done anything to warrant such a ban.
American Airlines has it’s fair share of dramas related to customer service, but Erin’s story is definitely a more extreme case.
American Airlines were tight-lipped about the reason for the ban
This was only the beginning of Erin’s ordeal as it turned out the staff could not tell her the reason for her ban straight away due to security reasons. It soon became apparent that she would miss her initial flight so Erin booked another which cost her an extra $1,000 for the same day, assuming things would be ironed out and she could get a refund by the time the next flight was due to take off.
But that wasn’t the case as getting a hold of customer services proved to be an impossible task and so she missed the next flight too. Erin ended up waiting days for an answer only to be told that she was banned for having sexual relations with a man on a flight while intoxicated. Erin knows such a scenario couldn’t be possible as, in her own words, “I’m a 24-year-old lesbian.”
Solving the issue was not easy
Months go by with little word from American Airlines regarding the ban or refund as Erin insists it was their mistake. She’s left with the challenge of proving she’s not into men which isn’t exactly easy to do. After months of waiting she finally got confirmation that she was no longer on the no-fly list and she was refunded $400, but was still $1,000 out of pocket.
Despite this, American Airlines staff told her they could not refund more money, leaving her with little option but to kick up a fuss on TikTok. Commenters on the app agreed that the situation was completely ridiculous and the video quickly blew up. In a later video, Erin confirmed that she had got her full refund which was no doubt in part due to her initial video blowing up.
