Usher slams the world for not seeing Diddy’s ‘greatness’ while his idol rots in prison for facilitating prostitution

R&B icon Usher is stepping up to defend his longtime musical colleague, Sean “Diddy” Combs, even as the superproducer serves time in prison following his recent conviction. Per USA Today, Usher said that he believes Combs has been “misrepresented” amidst his high-profile federal sex crimes trial. He said instead that for him, “legacy” is the word that comes to mind.

Usher made it clear he doesn’t have anything negative to say about Combs, stating his personal experiences with the mogul were vastly different from what the world has witnessed. He believes that “In many ways, I think certain people are prosecuted and maybe not recognized for the greatness that they offer. I don’t have anything negative to say about Sean Combs because my experience was not what the world has seen and how he’s been misrepresented.”

This defense comes months after Combs was found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He is currently incarcerated at New Jersey’s FCI Fort Dix, serving a 50-month sentence for his conviction. While he was acquitted of the more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, Combs is scheduled for release in 2028.

Usher emphasized that he isn’t claiming perfection for anyone, including Combs, stating, “I’m not saying that all of us don’t have flaws.” However, he stressed the importance of recognizing the positive impact Combs had. 

“But I can’t with any sense of humanity not recognize the valuable contributions that this man made for us as Black entrepreneurs, for us as businessmen, for us as people who have transitioned culture and ideas into something that’s tangible,” Usher explained. 

The conviction against Combs revolved around the transportation of two former girlfriends, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura Fine and an anonymous individual referred to as “Jane,” along with other sex workers, for prostitution. The trial itself saw some major moments, including emotional testimony from Fine, who was once a Bad Boy Records artist, detailing alleged abuse. 

Rapper Kid Cudi, who had a romantic relationship with Fine, also alleged that Combs broke into his home. Combs has consistently denied all allegations of sexual misconduct against him. He had even tried to argue temporary insanity during the hearings. Despite the recent conviction, he is still facing a significant legal battle, with upwards of 70 civil lawsuits filed against him across the country.

Usher reiterated his respect for Combs’s business acumen, highlighting how many people benefited from what Combs created. “I acknowledge that,” he added. “That’s who I see that man as. And that’s what I choose to remember.”

Usher concluded by saying he puts respect on Combs’s name because much of what he learned about business, even before fully understanding the concept, came from observing Combs’s accomplishments and positioning as a businessman. The most interesting thing about his defense of Combs as a businessman is that Combs is also facing allegations of harassment and intimidation to steal Bad Boy stakes from his former business partner.
