A DoorDash driver recently revealed a truly bizarre customer request, and honestly, it’s got the internet buzzing with a mix of shock and pure annoyance. Reddit user OnyxLeigion_ took to the platform to share a McDonald’s order that came with an utterly unexpected demand.
The customer instructed the driver to “do the Macarena for 10 seconds for [an] extra 3$ tip.” According to Newsweek, this idea definitely didn’t sit well with u/OnyxLeigion_.. After seeing the request pop up, they shared that it’s “just annoying” to be treated like that by customers. You know, delivering orders is totally part of the gig, but providing impromptu dance performances? That’s certainly not in the job description.
“I’m not a dancing monkey, and if I was, it would cost a lot more than $3,” they said. “People need to remember that my job is to deliver food, I am not an entertainer. If you expect the person bringing you your food to entertain you, there’s plenty of establishments that offer that.”
I feel for them, there is something inherently demeaning and entitled in that instruction
In the caption of the post, u/OnyxLeigion_ made it super clear where they stood, writing, “You can, in fact, keep your 3 dollars. I don’t need to be recorded and posted on the internet for 3 dollars.” If that wasn’t firm enough, the title of the post was a simple ‘No’
Since the post went live, it’s absolutely exploded online, racking up over 6,000 votes and more than 350 comments at the time of writing. The online community’s reaction has been overwhelmingly supportive of u/OnyxLeigion_.
One commenter perfectly captured the frustration, saying, “Wow. Dance monkey dance. That’s so irritating.” Another user added, “3 bucks to be all over some kid’s TikTok and Snap story, I’d pass too.” One user even put a price on their dignity, writing, “If it was $20 I’d do it 100%. $3 is an insult tho.”
Of course, there were a few folks in the comments who claimed they’d be willing to bust out a dance for an extra tip, but that’s just not how u/OnyxLeigion_ sees things. “My job is to deliver food, not dance for your entertainment,” they reiterated. “There were some people who are apparently desperate enough to make a fool of themselves for $3, trying to act like they’d do it for the fun of it.”
DoorDash drivers, like other delivery drivers, already have a hard time. Just a few months ago,, we saw a terrified driver, who was just trying to work, run into a house when ICE came after him. However, as fuel prices go up thanks to the Iran war, DoorDash is coming through as an employer to help its drivers out. Also, the drivers are still human and deserve respect, even if some entitled clients don’t agree.
