Journalist Don Lemon castigated Kristi Noem’s response to a deadly federal operation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, calling out what he described as a lack of empathy, after shocking allegations about Noem’s private life were made public and Noem’s family asked for privacy.
In a video clip circulating on social media, Lemon addressed Noem’s remarks after federal agents fatally shot two U.S. citizens during a controversial enforcement operation.
“When asked about the two people killed in Minnesota, instead of having empathy and asking for prayers for them,” Noem called them terrorists, Lemon said on his podcast, The Don Lemon Show, referring to the fallout regarding Noem and her husband, Bryon Noem. “Nobody has any empathy for you,” Lemon added.
What happened to Bryon Noem?
In late March and early April 2026, major outlets reported that Noem’s husband led a secret online life involving paid interactions with adult performers. According to published images and messages obtained by news organizations, Bryon reportedly spent thousands of dollars on explicit communications, sharing photographs of himself dressed in feminine attire.
Experts raised concerns that such undisclosed personal activity could have posed security risks during Noem’s tenure at DHS, as Bryon’s behavior could have left Noem vulnerable to blackmail and coercion.
Noem’s representatives described the family as “devastated” and “blindsided” by Bryon’s reported online activity, asking for privacy.
Noem’s DHS ouster
Before her husband’s controversy, federal agents shot and killed Renée Nicole Good and Alex Pretti — both Minnesota residents and U.S. citizens — amid a federal immigration crackdown in the state, leading to nationwide protests, while Noem was head of the Department of Homeland Security.
During congressional testimony, she defended her earlier comments that labeling the people who died “domestic terrorists,” which many lawmakers — Republican and Democrat alike — rejected as inaccurate and inflammatory.
In March 2026, President Trump replaced Noem amid bipartisan calls for accountability over the Minneapolis strategy and other agency challenges. Noem was reassigned to a diplomatic role focusing on the “Shield of the Americas” initiative.
Noem has also been plagued by allegations of a personal relationship with former Trump aide Corey Lewandowski during her tenure as DHS secretary. Reports suggest the two maintained unusually close contact, frequently traveling together on official and private trips, and meeting privately, which critics argue blurred professional boundaries.
Comment responding to Lemon’s statement noted in part,
Noem ABSOLUTELY knew what her husband was doing! I kept wondering why her husband wasn’t upset about the public humiliation of Noem’s alleged affair with Lewandowski.

While there is no public confirmation of an affair, the situation has caused speculation about potential conflicts of interest and workplace ethics, particularly given Noem’s high-profile role overseeing sensitive federal operations. Referring to all of Noem’s ongoing controversies, Lemon added in his remarks, “Nobody is going to give you any grace with this. This is called karma.”
