Where’s dad’: Las Vegas woman’s mom moves in with her childhood bully’s dad. Then they awkwardly share the same room

There are awkward afternoons, and then there is this.

A recent TikTok storytime from user Dessy Talks (@dessy_talks) details a heartbreaking childhood experience when her mother suddenly moved them in with her affair partner. The narrative has garnered thousands of comments from people absolutely aghast at the situation and incredibly impressed by the unexpected turn of events.

Dessy, who was just seven years old at the time but describes herself as being “basically like a five-year-old” due to a sheltered upbringing, recounts how one Tuesday morning her mom announced that after school, they wouldn’t be going home. Instead, they were moving in with “Bud.”

Sure enough, after school, Dessy and her older sister were picked up by their mom and taken to an unfamiliar apartment. Dessy noticed something peculiar right away: a vacuum cleaner that looked exactly like theirs, even broken in the same spot. Her mom then revealed, “That’s our vacuum, we live here now.” Just as Dessy was trying to process this, Josie, a girl who frequently bullied Dessy at school, walked in

That is a jarring change for anyone, let along a kid

The rest of the evening was filled with moments that only added to the trauma. Dessy used to sleep with her parents and was scared of sleeping alone. However, her mom told her that she was going to sleep with Bud in a king-sized bed.

Dessy was told she was sleeping in another oom, on the floor and that they’d get beds “soon.” Oh, and if the sudden change wasn’t bad enough, this was all happening in the middle of a school week.

Until this point, Dessy had never been allowed to do anything alone. Suddenly, she was told to “figure it out,” when bath time rolled around. She could only cry when Josie and Jenna, her new stepsisters, stood by, making fun of her for not knowing how to take a bath or even turn on the water.

Then, instead of her usual post-bath cuddles and TV time, Dessy was told she was “bothering” her mother when she knocked on the locked bedroom door. Dessy admits she had “insecure attachment” to her mother, so she found herself scared, traumatized, and forced to sleep on the floor with her older sister (who apparently “hated” her).

This is where things took an unexpected turn. Josie switched rooms to sleep with Dessy. The next day, she invited Dessy to sit with the “cool older kids” at lunchtime, shutting any complaints with a simple statement: “You can’t be mean to her anymore, because she’s my stepsister now.”

That incredible act of kindness, resonated with the viewers, and many expressed anger over Dessy’s mother’s abrupt emotional abandonment. One commenter, MorganThaGorgan, perfectly summed it up: “Fascinating how Josie, a third grader, became more emotionally aware and mature about this while thing BEFORE your mother who is a grown woman.”

Many viewers were also confused about the father’s absence. He clearly wasn’t like Kristi Noem’s huband who ignored her affair because of God. Also, thank goodness the affair partner was the bully’s dad and not the child’s spouse.
