Lynette Hooker, 55, a Michigan native from Onsted, and her husband, Brian Hooker, 58, are social media personalities known as “The Sailing Hookers,” sharing their nautical travels and adventures with thousands of followers online.

What happened to Lynette Hooker?

According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force and local rescue officials, Lynette and Brian set out on the evening of Saturday, April 4, 2026, departing from Hope Town on the Abaco Islands aboard an 8‑foot hard‑bottom dinghy.

They were reportedly heading toward their larger yacht, the Soulmate, anchored near Elbow Cay, when the incident occurred.

Authorities say poor weather conditions may have contributed to what Brian describes as an accidental fall overboard. In his account to Bahamian officials, Lynette went into the water while attempting the short return trip. She was holding the boat’s key at the time, which immediately shut off the dinghy’s engine, Brian said. Strong currents then carried her away, and Brian lost sight of her in the darkness.

After the disappearance, Brian paddled the dinghy to Marsh Harbour, arriving at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, where he reported his wife missing.

Once Brian reported Lynette missing, the Royal Bahamas Police Force, local volunteer rescue teams, and U.S. authorities launched a search. Despite efforts over several days, Lynette has not yet been found. Officials have not confirmed whether she was wearing a life jacket when she fell overboard.

The Royal Bahamas Police continue to request public assistance with any information that might help the investigation, but have not publicly confirmed any evidence of foul play.

Daughter demands answers

Lynette’s daughter, Karli Aylesworth, has publicly expressed frustration over the limited information she has been given about her mother’s disappearance. In statements reported by media outlets, including the New York Post and People, Aylesworth said she’s been “privy to very little information” regarding the circumstances and is insisting that authorities at all levels ensure a complete and transparent investigation.

“My sole concern is to find out what happened to my mother and make sure a full and complete investigation is performed into her disappearance,” Aylesworth said, adding that she would welcome involvement from federal, state, or local U.S. authorities in addition to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

She also hinted that she was aware of unspecified “prior issues” that she believes could be relevant to understanding what happened to her mother. Aylesworth told CBS News,

There have been prior issues brought to my attention, which may be important for any thorough investigation. If this truly was an accident, I can understand and live with it. However, there needs to be an intensive review of the facts and circumstances of this tragic incident before that can be determined.”

Aylesworth has shared old photos of her mom on social media and continues to press for clarity as the case unfolds.

Travel advisory and safety concerns

The U.S. State Department has acknowledged the incident and confirmed it is assisting Bahamian officials. Travelers to the Bahamas — which currently carries a Level 2 travel advisory regarding watercraft safety inspections — are routinely reminded to exercise caution, particularly when boating after dark or in unregulated maritime areas. As the search transitions from rescue to recovery, authorities say the investigation remains active, and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Bahamian law enforcement.
