IDF spokesman argues murdered one-year-old Lebanese baby probably terrorist, had it coming either way

You'd think the IDF could at least come up with a new excuse for killing kids.

Public support for Israel across all demographics in America is nosediving. As of the latest polling just 32% of Americans have a favorable view of Israel, a catastrophic decline from 55% favorable in spring 2022.

None of this should be at all surprising, as Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is widely considered to have dragged the Trump administration into a pointless war with Iran that has achieved little except spiking gas prices for regular Americans.

Even beyond that, Israel isn’t doing itself any favors in the court of public opinion. They are also generally understood to be intentionally sabotaging any ceasefire brokered between America and Iran, maintaining a brutal bombardment of Lebanon with the intention of seizing their land.

All of which means the IDF is currently having to, once again, figure out some justification for all the innocent men, women, and children they’re slaughtering each day. But why bother to get creative with this when you can play the old hits?

“A one-year-old baby is a terrorist?”

And so, once again, we’re treated to the line that the dead were probably all terrorists. And hey, even if they weren’t, you can’t make an omelette without exploding a few babies. This argument was back on stage on Piers Morgan Uncensored last night, with both Morgan and Mehdi Hasan left aghast at IDF spokesman Doron Spielman’s justification for murdering a one-year-old baby:

Hasan zeroed in on the colossal civilian death toll of Israel’s attacks, saying they “murdered 300 people last week.” Spielman counters that “we murdered 300 terrorists last week”. Hasan points out that the one-year-old baby attending his father’s funeral wasn’t a terrorist.

Spielman shrugs and says that baby got blown up because Hezbollah is responsible for it being at its father’s funeral, which Israel bombed. I don’t think I need to explain why this is monstrous, as anyone with two functioning brain cells and a functioning sense of right and wrong will already be disgusted.

The depressing cherry on top is that there will be no immediate consequences for Israel. It’s darkly ironic that the Trump administration is on a mission to defeat Iran, insisting they’re a murderous state with nuclear ambitions who want to destabilize the Middle East – and all the while, Trump’s closest ally, Israel IS a murderous state WITH nuclear weapons who ARE destablizing the Middle East.

If there’s a silver lining, it’s that the collapse in support for Israel in the United States (and around the world) will soon have consequences. Politicians are realizing that unquestioning support of Israel is becoming an electoral liability, especially as younger voters are particularly disgusted by the Netanyahu administration’s crimes over the last few years.

Democratic politicians are already publicly vowing that they will no longer accept money from AIPAC, with even centrists making it clear that they are now not in lockstep with everything Israel demands of them. Republicans are further behind, but within the MAGA base is a growing resentment that their tax money is being spent on defending Israel rather than making their lives better.

Maybe one day Israel will have to stand alone in the Middle East without the support of American taxpayers? And maybe, at that point, the Israeli government may realize that being surrounded by nations that rightly hate you for murdering countless innocent civilians isn’t exactly the best long-term strategy.
