Top bullfighter’s comeback turns farce after bull gores him in particularly painful place, doctors order emergency ‘sphincter reconstruction’

A lifetime of painful pooping beckons.

As they say, “If you mess with the bull, you get the horns”. Matadors presumably take that advice a bit more literally than most, as choosing a career of dodging and executing enraged 1000lb horned herbivores will inevitably lead to some injuries.

But it’s safe to say that Spain‘s Jose Antonio Morante Camacho – known as the “king of bullfighters’ – would have preferred getting the horn somewhere else. On Sunday, the 46-year-old was making a comeback performance and preparing to execute yet another bull in Seville.

Then disaster struck. The bull, a chestnut-colored, 1120 lb beauty, charged.Camacho attempted to dodge but couldn’t raise his arms in time. The bull caught him at hip level, and its left horn ended up where the sun don’t shine. Ow.

Camacho collapsed to the ground, squealing in pain and grabbing at his destroyed rear end. His fellow bullfighters rushed to his aid, carrying him from the ring as he writhed in agony. He was taken to the hospital where doctors put him under anaesthetic and began considering how to repair what the bull had torn asunder in what they described as a “devastating internal injury“.

The official report detailed exactly what the bull did to Camacho’s butt, saying:

“It is a bull horn wound on the posterior anal margin with a trajectory of about 10cm, partially damaging the anal sphincter muscles with a perforation of the posterior wall of the rectum of 1.5cm. The intervention consisted of washing the wound, repairing the rectal wall and the sphincter apparatus, leaving a suction drain in the postanal and retrorectal space.”

Doctors are closely monitoring Camacho, with his injury leaving him in “very serious” condition.

The bull’s revenge

But enough about the guy with the annihilated ass, what about the triumphant Clandestino? Substitute matador Borja Jiménez stepped in, but Clandestino managed to lightly gore him as well. At this point, it’d have been nice to give the bull a pardon – an indulto. After all, if you’ve obliterated the butt of one of Spain’s top matadors and put up a fierce fight against his replacement, you’ve won in my book.

Sadly, it’s exceptionally rare for a bull to make it out of the ring alive. And so, having tired, Clandestino was killed by Jiménez and then presumably dragged to the on-site slaughterhouse where he was dismembered and probably turned into sausage.

Camacho has killed countless bulls over his career, leaving a trail of pointless and barbaric death in his wake. But now, finally, some justice has been served. The wheels of karma turn slowly, and while Clandestino may now be charcuterie, he’ll live forever in Camacho’s mind whenever he gingerly sits down on the toilet to painfully squeeze one out.
