The internet and fast food enjoyers in general have been deeply disturbed by a video which surfaced online showing McDonald’s workers in Massachusetts putting fries in their mouth before putting them back in the carton to serve to customers.
The revolting clip was reportedly recorded in a McDonald’s in Southbridge according to an article from the New York Post. In it, a woman can be seen shoveling French fries into her mouth before taking them back out and putting them in the box. Her and another woman on camera can be heard giggling as she says, “so you want French fries with that right?”
While the clip was originally shared via private message it was later leaked and the video has since been shared across numerous platforms including X where people understandably reacted with horror to the gross clip.
“From now on I want my fries fresh, right out the grease…” wrote one disturbed viewer. “That’s just wrong.” agreed another, “I would never mess with someone’s food even if you are an awful customer!”
It seems this viral video has tapped into a newfound fear that you never really know what’s in your meal and you never know what restaurant workers could really be up to anything in the kitchen and we would never know. Except in this case of course, because they were foolish enough to record themselves doing it.
McDonald’s under investigation
Of course, the workers may regret filming their crime as they are likely to find themselves in a lot of trouble now. The Southbridge Police Department and Board of Health have already been alerted to the video’s existence. Police confirmed that they had received numerous calls and tips regarding the video and were investigating the matter.
Food contamination could be a serious offence, especially if it ends up making someone ill. Poor hygiene when it comes to food products can, in some cases lead to convictions, at the very least the workers will likely lose their jobs and the restaurant could be potentially facing some lawsuits.
In a statement the Southbridge Police Department said it was “working to determine whether the food was ultimately served to a customer and to identify any individual who may have been affected.” The families that own and operate the Southbridge McDonald’s also stated that the employees shown in the video had already been identified and fired from their roles.
They went on to claim they were working with local authorities who had found “no public health concerns or violations.” Of course, many have understandably sworn off of McDonald’s food for the foreseeable future so it might be a while before the Southbridge store regains the trust of its customer base.
