A suspected car thief in Omaha, Nebraska, may have made investigators’ job easier after security footage allegedly showed him wearing a shirt from streetwear brand Crooks & Castles while stealing a 2018 Dodge Journey.
According to a report from KETV NewsWatch 7, Omaha police continue searching for the suspect connected to the vehicle theft from a health clinic parking lot. Investigators released surveillance images and video in hopes that someone would recognize the man, whose clothing quickly drew attention online because of the irony attached to the brand name.
Surveillance video reveals that the initial theft at the health clinic involved two people working in tandem.
An accomplice driving a White Ford Escape backed into a parking spot, allowing the suspect in the red sweatshirt to exit the vehicle and check for unlocked doors. After targeting vehicles in the lot, the suspect successfully stole the 2018 Dodge Journey and drove away.
Once in possession of the stolen Dodge Journey, the suspect allegedly used it as a getaway vehicle to target residential areas. Authorities said a subsequent theft spree happened during overnight and pre-dawn hours in west Omaha neighborhoods.
Authorities said the suspect managed to steal items, including a wallet and personal belongings, from unlocked vehicles before driving away. KETV reported that some victims lost credit cards, cash, and luggage containing family photographs.
The Crooks & Castles sweatshirt
KETV reported that the suspect wore a red sweatshirt or shirt with Crooks & Castles lettering, a Los Angeles streetwear label known for slogans and graphics centered on hustler culture and luxury-inspired imagery. The brand, founded in 2002, built a following through phrases such as “Honor Amongst Thieves” and “Can’t Stop the Crooks.”
Investigators have not publicly identified the suspect. But according to KETV, police described the man as having dreadlocks pulled up on his head and a chinstrap-style beard. Omaha Crime Stoppers highlighted another unusual detail from the video to help identify him: the suspect was wearing his pants with only one pant leg pulled up. Surveillance footage also showed him checking nearby vehicles for valuables.
The investigation remains active, and Omaha Crime Stoppers has asked the public to help identify the suspect. Police urged residents to lock their vehicles, even when parked at home overnight, because thieves often look for easy targets with visible valuables left inside.
The case also reflects a broader problem in Omaha and other cities where stolen vehicles frequently become tools for additional property crimes. In several recent Omaha-area investigations highlighted by KETV, police used surveillance footage, distinctive clothing, and recognizable movements to track suspects tied to thefts and break-ins.
Anyone with information about the stolen Dodge Journey case can contact Omaha Crime Stoppers anonymously through its hotline, 402-444-STOP, or online tip system, according to investigators.
