A routine maintenance visit at a Houston-area Toyota dealership reportedly turned into a frustrating experience for one driver. That’s according to Reddit posts that claim the man’s Camry was temporarily “lost” before being found and later described as damaged.
Reddit user Legendary_Freeloader posted the account in June 2026, describing a sequence of events that began when he dropped off his Camry for service. In the first post, he said the dealership sent him two separate videos shortly after arrival, one showing his vehicle and another showing a different car.
He then said he spoke with a dealership representative who told him they were unable to locate his vehicle. He said staff tried to determine where the car had been sent while he waited in the lobby.
Camry owner says he pushed the matter, and the manager responded
In an update, the Reddit user claimed the situation escalated before staff eventually located the car. When he asked whether police should be contacted to file a stolen vehicle report, a manager then said they knew where the vehicle was. He also alleged that while in dealership care, the Camry had been damaged.
The user later said he saw employees cleaning and preparing the vehicle, though he reported unclear explanations when he asked for details. He also claimed he was charged $300 for an oil change and said he planned to take his business elsewhere. The dealership involved is not identified in this article, although the original post included a link referencing a Houston-area dealership.
In a comment, another Reddit user wrote, “My mom brought her car to a local dealership. They hit the bumper. They ended up fixing it for free and offering a loaner. Get your insurance company involved. This is an easy win for you.”
Reddit posts of this nature are not independently verified and reflect only the users’ accounts of events. Even still, similar complaints occasionally surface on social media. About a year before Freeloader’s post, a Reddit user posting under the name GrandMasterBen described a similar situation in which they took their mother’s car to a dealership for routine service but later received no update on its status.
After calling to check on the vehicle, they said a representative told them there was no record of the car being received. The user then went to the dealership in person, where a manager allegedly said the vehicle had been “lost” and did not provide an immediate resolution.
Consumer advocates generally advise drivers to request written documentation of vehicle condition at intake, including photos or inspection reports, when leaving a car for service. Some also recommend confirming repair authorizations and requesting itemized invoices before payment to reduce the risk of disputes. At this time, no public statement from the dealership involved in either Reddit post has been made available.
