A man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and attempting to kidnap a woman in Wisconsin after she told him she wasn’t interested in a romantic relationship with him. Angelo Liberto, 22, is facing multiple charges and is currently being held on $2 million bail.
Liberto was arrested on May 31 and is facing three charges all of which are felonies, as per PEOPLE. The charges include attempted second degree sexual assault, kidnapping, and false imprisonment all of which include the modifier for the use of a deadly weapon.
The victim, whose identity has not been made public, had allegedly been on several dates with Liberto after being introduced by a mutual friend in September 2025. However, she ultimately rejected a further romantic relationship with the 22-year-old but reportedly wished to remain friends with him.
Prior to the alleged assault and attempted kidnap the victim also claimed that Liberto had showed up to her house at 1 a.m. She also stated that she had texted him “and told him that this was now the second time that he’d crossed boundaries.”
Angelo Liberto allegedly told the victim she “should’ve been scared”
The pair had planned to meet up after work on May 29 according to the complaint filed by the victim. It’s then that Liberto allegedly told the victim to get in the back of the car under the pretense of having a gift for her. When she got in she saw “lotion and chocolates.” Liberto allegedly drove her to an unknown location before telling her she “should’ve been scared” and proceeded to pull out a gun.
As per the charges against him, he also threatened her with a knife, telling her to give him her phone and put on a pair of handcuffs. The victim claimed she told Liberto that he was “really scaring” her, and that he called her a “liar and a b—h” and also accused her of “seeing other people.”
During their conversation, the victim was able to get ahold of her phone and eventually dial 911 after a previous failed attempt due to the device being in airplane mode. Liberto allegedly told her that he intended to take her to a “lake house” where he planned to sexually assault her. When she asked what would happen afterward he apparently told her “he did not know.”
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office were able to rescue the victim at a traffic stop around 11 p.m. The officers found an assortment of items in the car including duct tape, bondage restraints, a hacksaw, hydrogen peroxide, chains and much more.
Liberto appeared in court for his preliminary hearing on June 9 where his bail was raised from $200,000 to $2 million after alleged comments he made to another inmate suggesting he was planning on “finishing what he started if he were released.” Liberto’s attorney stated he “adamantly” denies any wrongdoing.
