TikToker Manila, a baker who shares her baking adventures on TikTok, recently opened up about a delivery experience that went from a standard business transaction to something that completely creeped her out, and had her considering the effectiveness of her gut instinct. The video has already racked up 5.6 million views. The story, she says, happened years ago, shortly after one of her first cake videos went viral, which in turn grew her business.
Manila said she started receiving requests from locals, including one woman who contacted her during the summer for a son’s birthday cake. Manila described the client as being “very rich,” adding, “I honestly thought she was like part of the Rothschilds too.” However, when it came time for delivery, Manila headed 45 minutes away, saying, “t’s like in the middle of literally nowhere.”
She finally pulls up to what she describes as a “huge freaking mansion,” but is confused when she finds that “nobody’s there.” Manila said she rang the doorbell, checked the backyard, and found absolutely no one. After waiting and calling the client with no response, she sat in her car, feeling increasingly uneasy. She eventually leaves, “cause at this point it’s far too late for any cake to be served.” Which is when things begin to get strange.
Manila was asked to come back, and for some reason, she did
As she drove away, Manila said she received a call from a private number. The client apologized, claimed they had changed the location to a barn, and asked her to come back, telling her she would send someone to pick it up.
The client even told her, “I saw you on the cameras,” which threw Manila off. “I did not see any cameras there,” she said. “So I was like, “I don’t know. Um, could you meet me at like a near gas station?” Cause I was feeling really terrified at this point.”
Against her better judgment, Manila returned to the house. This time, she described hearing “weird noises, weird freaking noises” as she approached. She then saw a man standing by the front door wearing all black and a top hat. She said, “He starts running towards my car and in such a weird, like, inhumane way. I, I don’t, I can’t explain it.”
She managed to speed away, later stopping at a gas station to regain her composure. When she asked a local about the mansion, the man responded, “No, ma’am, no one has lived there in decades. It’s awfully abandoned.”
TikTok was just as creeped out as her. Commenter Lupita Tadeo wrote, “The minute she called you & asked you to please come back made my stomach drop. No way I would’ve came back because wdym you saw me in the cameras & didn’t think to call me until I started to drive away??”
Other viewers focused on the importance of listening to that internal alarm. Sonialee73 noted, “Call it discernment or intuition- when eerie feeling kicks in- I am walking out!” and Awaken Within added, “the minute you have a bad gut feeling, you need to listen to it 😭.”
According to an article by Verywell mind, intuition is an innate ability to know something without conscious thought, often manifesting as a “gut feeling.” The article emphasizes that you should never ignore your intuition when it comes to your safety. If a situation feels “off” or makes you suspicious, it’s vital to pay attention to those signals.
Recently, a Nashville TikToker shared a strange encounter in the woods where her survival instincts, from years of watching True Crime, kicked in. In the same way, last year, a couple was creeped out when they came across an empty gas station, filled with dusty abandoned cars.
Experts suggest that your body is highly calibrated to keep you safe, and signs like a pit in your stomach or the hair on your neck standing up are physical manifestations of that intuition. While some might worry about overthinking, Teresa Lodato, a psychotherapist, clarifies that intuition usually comes as neutral communication, whereas overthinking is often characterized by repetitive, unproductive ruminations.
When Manila checked her phone weeks later, she found that the client’s number and all associated text history had vanished, leaving the contact listed as “Unknown.” It freaked her out because she couldn’t understand what happened, and she dryly remarked, “My survival instincts were no different from a freaking onion at that point in my life.”
