Nobody likes to be rudely interrupted while using the bathroom. But when you’re a young female intern and some random guys enter the women’s restroom and begin shaking the door of your stall?
And yet this is precisely what TikToker ‘shmates’ reports in a video on her channel that’s appropriately titled “Work Horror Storytime”.
She says she was “doing her business” when she suddenly heard a loud male voice exclaim, “oh my gosh they sell tampons in here,” and laugh loudly. She says she thought, “Why are there dudes in the bathroom?”
“All of a sudden there’s dark figures coming over to your stall and one of them tries to open the door. And they can’t because obviously it’s locked cause I’m sitting in there. So then they start shaking the door, trying to open it and I’m just like what is happening because I don’t have pants on. I’m trying to do my business, why are you trying to get into my stall?!”
She says they then headed to the other occupied stall and tried that on the other girl. She says both of them froze, as she thought “they could have a weapon”. Thankfully, they left without actually breaking into a stall.
“I’m just like what is happening because I don’t have pants on”
Later that day, she says she decided she had to report this to the HR lady:
“So I go in and talk to her and she’s like, “okay, I worked in HR a while and this one of the scarier thing that’s happened.”
This was then escalated up the chain to the HR department, which promised to find the men on the security cameras.
It’s unknown how this situation was resolved or if the men were caught, and as both the business she’s interning at and the building she works at aren’t identified, we have no comment from either.
There’s no specific law titled “breaking into bathroom stalls,” but several Texas Penal Code provisions can apply. Most relevant is Texas Penal Code §42.01, which states that it’s a crime to, for a lewd or unlawful purpose, look into a restroom stall designed for privacy while on public premises:
“A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly … while on the premises of a public place, looks into an area such as a restroom or shower stall or changing or dressing room that is designed to provide privacy to a person using the area.”
