A woman said she was questioned by a fellow passenger and a flight attendant while trying to reach her first-class seat on an American Airlines flight to Miami, according to a TikTok video she posted online. She said she boarded among the first few passengers and had been assigned seat 1D.
In the video, the woman said a male passenger asked her, “Do you know where you’re going? Do you know where you’re sitting?” She said this happened as she tried to get into her seat in the first row. She also said the man had placed his bag in the overhead bin above her seat before she arrived.
According to the woman, a flight attendant then approached and said, “let me check your boarding pass.” On-screen text in the video claimed the man “was soooo sure I wasn’t in First Class.” The woman said she found the situation “funny” but questioned why it happened, asking in the video, “do y’all think this is back in the day?”
The Woman says the incident happened despite boarding among first passengers
The woman said she usually flies Delta but booked American Airlines for what she described as a last-minute trip. She said passengers are typically called to board in groups starting with first class, passengers with disabilities, and military members, and said she was the fourth or fifth person to board the plane. A similar dispute involved a woman whose disability was questioned by a Delta gate agent and a random passenger.
She said that despite boarding early and holding a first-row seat assignment, other passengers appeared to look at her “like I’m in the way” as she walked to her seat. She did not name the airline employees or fellow passenger involved, and American Airlines has not publicly responded to the claims as of this report.
In the video, the woman said the flight attendant’s request to check her boarding pass felt unnecessary, saying, “check his shit” in reference to the male passenger who had questioned her. She said she did not want to attribute the incident to her race, stating, “I don’t even want to be the one to say like, oh, because I’m Black and stuff like that or whatever, because I’m that girl, you know.” She added, “But I do find it funny.”
The woman also referenced other passengers and crew members during the video, saying even “the bitch who sell peanuts” seemed to react similarly, though she did not provide further detail on this claim. She said, “if you don’t get the fuck over, scoot the fuck over,” while describing her frustration with how she said passengers responded to her presence in the first-class cabin.
During the video, the woman showed what she identified as a Louis Vuitton duffel bag, a Louis Vuitton handbag, and an Audemars Piguet watch. She asked, “what is it giving? Like, I got LV luggage, la boo boo, LV bag, AP,” appearing to reference the luxury items as she discussed the incident. The video ends with footage of the woman at an airport pick-up area, where a man is seen placing her Louis Vuitton duffel bag into the trunk of a black SUV before she gets into the vehicle. On-screen text at the end of the video reads, “Moral of the story… are black ppl Ever really lonely.”
The video has drawn a range of reactions in the comments section. One commenter wrote, “It’s not funny it’s discrimination and it’s sad,” while another suggested, “Sue for discrimination.” Another commenter said, “And what blows me is people act like first class is unattainable. I’ve literally gotten upgrades for free or less than 100 dollars.”
Some commenters questioned the woman’s framing of the luxury items shown in the video. One wrote, “LV luggage isnt a sign of wealth. It’s a sign that someone is trying hard to look rich.” Another commenter said, “I been flying for over 30 years never American airlines but I never ever have issues traveling,” without providing further detail on their experiences with the airline. As of writing, American Airlines has not issued a statement addressing the specific incident described.
