New Orleans woman’s 2024 Ford Bronco Sport goes back and forth on flat ground. After 4 visits, dealer allegedly says: ‘Nothing is wrong’

Then an alleged mechanic tells her that she inadvertently purchased "garbage."

New Orleans TikTok creator Taylor White took to the platform to call out the entire Ford Motor Company because her relatively new car just won’t stop having mechanical problems. White claims that whenever she parks her 2024 Ford Bronco Sport, it rocks back and forth.

They suggested, that I leave my foot on the break longer? 4 trips to mutiple service departments and 10 total weeks with out my vehicle.. The vehicle has 20k miles on it. @Ford Motor Company (2 times at Ford of Harvey & 2 times at Bayou Ford, in Laplace) When I first purchased the car, it never did this!! This is a recent thing that started happening, so “holding the brake longer” or “putting on the parking brake on” is not a answer to the problem here.. and YES this is level ground! #ford #broncosport #fordmotorcompany #fordbronco #fordperformance

The complaints about modern car manufacturing have been loud and consistent. On one hand, there have been groundbreaking advancements in the technology that can be fitted into cars these days — from self-driving capabilities to impressively low fuel consumption, especially in these times of unpredictable gas prices. On the other hand, it’s pretty much a foregone conclusion that cars made post-2016 are often criticized for largely being unable to get past 300,000 miles.

Most people in the know agree it’s normal

White says she has been to the mechanic four times, and they keep telling her “there’s nothing wrong”. When you check Ford forums, the pattern that this has been something automatic-transmission Fords made after 2021 exhibit is pretty clear.

On the Bronco Sport Forum, the general consensus was that it is, in fact, normal for the car to rock if someone doesn’t properly engage the parking pawl and parking brake. One person on the forum wrote, “Hit the parking brake before taking your foot off the brake. You won’t budge. You will also save the transmission the trouble of bearing the full weight of the vehicle on inclined (or declined) surfaces. Win-win.”

Another user agreed, adding, “Do this especially when parked on hills (also know the correct way to park on hills — ask San Francisco residents). That way you’re not putting the weight of the vehicle on the parking pawl.” They continued, “The parking brake takes the weight and the pawl is the backup. Not the other way around. If you saw the parking pawl, you’d instantly understand.”

A mechanic in White’s comments was harsher toward the brand of car she chose, writing, “Mechanic here. The issue is you bought a Ford Bronco Sport lmao. They are just the Ford Escape (which was garbage) renamed.” Which might be a spicy hot take, but it doesn’t really fix the issue at hand.

Some people were also making fun of White for not knowing how to park a car correctly. The commentary from these folks was that a majority of long-term drivers already know the limitations of a parking pawl and the importance of using the parking brake.

Never fear to ask

She also received some extreme advice, with one person suggesting she replace the steering wheel actuator. But odds are, if that were the problem, a reliable mechanic would have spotted it right away. However, one could also argue that if the issue was simply that she wasn’t engaging the parking brake when stopping her car, wouldn’t the mechanics have told her that too? Instead of her making four trips to the shop to fix something that might not even be a real mechanical issue.

Knowing how to drive a car and knowing how to take care of it have always been two separate things. People often fail to appreciate that distinction. And it never hurts to ask questions — that has always been the first step toward being informed.
