A North Carolina car salesman says a simple oversight turned into an expensive lesson after a customer walked away from a deal for a new Jeep Wrangler, despite the dealership eventually agreeing to an additional $1,000 discount and several other concessions. WeeksAtTheWheel (@weeksatthewheel), who identifies himself as a salesman at North Point Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, shared the story in a TikTok video, where he repeatedly accepted responsibility for what happened.
According to WeeksAtTheWheel, the customer arrived at the dealership on a Saturday in July 2026, driving a 2020 Jeep Wrangler, and wanted to upgrade to a new 2026 model. After spending about 90 minutes comparing trim levels and features, they settled on a black Jeep Wrangler Rubicon equipped with Jeep’s available One-Touch Power Top, a fabric roof opening with the push of a button while preserving the open-air driving experience of a traditional Wrangler.
The dealership had a black Rubicon in stock, but it lacked the One-Touch Power Top. The customer asked whether the dealership could locate one from another dealer.
WeeksAtTheWheel managers found just what the customer wanted
WeeksAtTheWheel said his manager found a matching vehicle through a dealer trade. He told the customer the Jeep would arrive by Monday with “roughly” more than 200 miles on the odometer because of the transfer. The customer agreed to the price and left a $500 deposit.
The problem surfaced Monday morning. The salesman said he never checked how far away the other dealership was before promising the delivery date. “I made a huge mistake,” he said.
The jeep was an entire state away
Instead of coming from a nearby dealership, the Wrangler was located in Charleston, South Carolina, about four to five hours each way from Winston-Salem, according to his account. That meant the delivery would happen on Tuesday, and the Jeep would arrive with closer to 300 miles, though still under 350.
WeeksAtTheWheel said he immediately called the customer, admitted the mistake, and apologized. He also offered to pay for three oil changes and tire rotations “out of my own pocket,” while his manager agreed to include all-weather floor mats at no charge.
The customer, however, asked for another $1,000 off the negotiated price because he had already taken time off work. According to the salesman, management initially declined because the Jeep had already been sold below invoice.
Later, after WeeksAtTheWheel explained the situation to the dealership owner, management agreed to the extra discount while honoring the complimentary maintenance and floor mats.
By then, the customer had changed his mind. “He reaches out via email, says, ‘Hey, you know what? It’s been too much back and forth. This is just too much of a hassle. I no longer want the Jeep. Thank you. I want my deposit back,'” WeeksAtTheWheel said. He added that he never heard from the customer again.
The TikTok prompted discussion in the comments. One viewer suggested, “He played you against another dealer.” WeeksAtTheWheel replied, “Possibly, but when we searched there were only 3 jeeps like the way he wanted and one of them was what we were picking up for him.”
Another commenter defended the salesman, writing, “People are so ridiculous. Mistakes happen and you did the best job you could. I think you would be better to sell it to someone else. You will make more money.”
WeeksAtTheWheel closed the video by acknowledging the error cost him personally. “I missed my bonus by one, and that was the one… It literally cost me my bonus,” he said, adding that while mistakes happen, he tries “to do everything I can possibly do to try to make up for said mistake.”
