Florida man says his Bluetooth ‘connected’ at 1 am, checks to find it’s not on. Then he hears strangers talking: ‘What I heard was not normal’

"This was not music. This was not a phone call."

A Florida man’s late-night encounter with a Bluetooth-enabled fitness device has sparked discussion online after he claimed it connected to an unknown phone and began playing what sounded like a private conversation between strangers. In a TikTok video, creator Steffan Rallo (@raw_and_untamed) said the unusual incident happened around 1 a.m. while he was asleep.

“I just experienced one of the craziest technology glitches that I have ever heard of,” Rallo said at the start of the video. He explained that the device in question was a vibration plate, a fitness machine designed to vibrate rapidly while a person stands on it. Many newer models include Bluetooth speakers so users can play music during workouts.

According to Rallo, the machine suddenly announced, “Bluetooth device connected,” waking him from sleep. “I look at my phone; my Bluetooth is not on, so I don’t know who’s connected to it,” he said.

He assumed it connected to a speaker

At first, he assumed someone nearby had accidentally paired with the speaker. “But what I heard was not normal,” he continued. “This was not music. This was not a phone call.”

Instead, Rallo said he could hear what sounded like two people talking naturally in the same room. “I heard two people talking to each other in the same room next to their phone,” he said. “Like, I could tell that this wasn’t a phone call.”

He later recorded the audio coming through the speaker. In the clip, voices can be heard speaking, prompting Rallo to react, “See, you can hear the people… See? See, there’s multiple people having a conversation, and I’m hearing it through their phone.”

“This isn’t a phone call. How is that possible, you guys?” he asked. “Like, this is a serious glitch.” Many viewers responded by saying they had experienced unexpected Bluetooth connections, though not everyone reported hearing conversations.

One commenter said they had seen their own vibration plate connect to an unknown device but never transmit voices. They suggested that living in a rural area may have reduced the chances.

Another viewer described an even stranger experience. They claimed their vibration plate does not even include Bluetooth, but still seems to pick up conversations from strangers at random times throughout the day.

The commenter said the unexplained audio became unsettling enough that they now unplug the machine whenever they are not using it. While Rallo did not identify the brand or model of the vibration plate, Bluetooth devices typically must be paired before they can exchange audio.

Once two devices have bonded, they can reconnect automatically when they are within range. Based on Rallo’s video alone, it is not possible to determine why ambient conversations appeared to play through the speaker.

Bluetooth devices have caused strange problems before. In June 2026, a United Airlines flight made a U-turn over the Atlantic when someone noticed a Bluetooth device on the network labeled “bomb.” Unconfirmed reports said it was a teenager’s speaker.

Rallo’s experience has not been independently verified. Opinions expressed are those of Rallo’s and the commenters.
