A Reddit user has sparked a massive debate online after revealing she shared a kiss with an old friend, only to discover hours later that his girlfriend had just given birth to their second child. The original poster, who goes by the handle LastPuppyInTheBox, took to the r/AITAH subreddit to ask if she would be the a–hole, if she didn’t inform the new mother about the encounter.
Per the post on Reddit, the situation began at a festival in her home city. The user says she bumped into a friend she had not seen in seven years, someone she used to hang out with in a shared friend group. During the festival, the interaction turned physical. “Friday night we kissed, like really kissed,” she wrote. “We went away from the crowd and there was some grabbing and he confessed that he had always been very attracted to me.”
At the time, the user said she did not intend to pursue anything. Additionally, he did not show up on Saturday. It was only on Sunday, when she checked her Facebook account, that the reality hit her. She discovered that the man’s girlfriend had posted on Saturday that she had given birth to their second child. The user noted, “I know her too as it is the same girl that he was dating back then. I liked her very much.”
She was disgusted, but did not intend to act on it
The user wrote, “I off course have zero interest in him. I didnt really before, but after knowing this I find him absolutely disgusting. I feel disgusted with myself too, but I do blame him more because I had no idea he was still with her, and definitely not that she was about to give birth the next day.” Despite this, she concluded that she would not tell the girlfriend.
Her reasoning centered on the timing. “My reasoning is that she literally just gave birth, they have small children, and I don’t want to be the person who drops this on her right now,” she wrote. She also expressed a desire to avoid being associated with the fallout of the family’s potential collapse.
The community feedback was largely critical of her decision to stay silent. One user told her, “YTA if you don’t tell her. She does deserve to know. Maybe wait a while until she is settled with her child. But I think she deserves to know.” Another commenter suggested she use an anonymous account to deliver the news, stating, “My ex cheated on me postpartum and no one told me, and I wasted years of my life on a worthless, pathetic man.”
One user thought the Redditor shouldn’t wait, writing, “I think 100% YTA if you don’t tell her that her boyfriend cheated on her the day before she birthed his child. She deserves to know who the father of her child is and make a decision on their relationship with all the information.”
According to Prevention, identifying cheating can be complex because it is not always black and white. Experts note that cheaters often try to appear normal to avoid consequences, but there are common red flags. These include sudden changes in availability, increased focus on appearance, or changes in phone habits.
Per the site, licensed marriage and family therapist Lesli Doares notes that cheaters strive to make everything appear normal to avoid being caught. If a partner becomes defensive or uses gaslighting when questioned about these changes, it can be a sign that they are hiding something.
In an update, LastPuppyInTheBox revealed she reached out to her ex to get more context on the situation. Her ex, who still interacts with both parties, told her that “there has been a lot of drama in their relationship for years, and that this is not the first time for him. Also not the worst thing he has done.”
The ex claimed the man had engaged in full affairs before and that the girlfriend had chosen to forgive him each time. Despite this, the user’s ex advised she stay out of it, as the man could become “unpleasant” if confronted.
Ultimately, the user decided that the potential for drama and the man’s history meant it was not worth her getting involved. This choice drew sharp criticism from the community, with one commenter telling her, “I hope you have the life you deserve moving forward.”
A recent TikTok story details the moment a woman thought she was being cheated on, until she checked her partner’s car. However, while that had a happy ending, cheating stories are frightfully common. Another TikToker found that her childhood best friend was cheating on her brother when her location pinged at a different address.
