Florida woman says she got detained at Walmart, faced sheriff deputies. Then they allegedly gave her $1K gift card to buy her silence

But she says she won't stay silent.

A Florida woman says a routine Walmart grocery trip turned into a confrontation with store employees and a sheriff’s deputy after workers accused her of failing to pay for a steak. She says a receipt check, an item scan, and surveillance footage ultimately confirmed that she had paid for the meat.

TikTok creator ThatsSoKeezy (@thatssokeezy) described the incident in a video. In the transcript of the video, she begins by saying, “No, I’m literally appalled because I just got detained in Walmart over a freaking steak.”

According to her account, she was shopping at Walmart and used a self-checkout lane. After she scanned several items, a Walmart employee approached her and said she had not scanned the steak.

Things reportedly got complicated when she tried to leave.

The woman said she disputed that claim because she had watched the item scan on the self-checkout screen. She said the employee then reviewed the transaction and acknowledged that she had scanned it.

The shopper said she paid for her groceries, received a receipt, and headed toward the exit. Near the door, however, she noticed several people communicating over walkie-talkies.

A man then asked to see her receipt, according to her account. She handed it over, and she said he began checking the items in her cart. According to Keezy, the man told her, “You didn’t pay for this steak.”

She again insisted she had paid for it. She pointed out that the employee at the self-checkout had initially questioned the scan before confirming it.

The situation escalated when Walmart employees asked her to enter a room used by loss prevention personnel, according to her account. She said she resisted because she believed store employees were accusing her of theft even though she had paid for the groceries.

The woman said an employee eventually told her Walmart would call the sheriff’s office. She said deputies arrived in less than five minutes and asked her to enter the room so they could speak with her privately. According to her account, she agreed because she did not want the situation to result in an arrest.

Inside, Walmart employees reportedly scanned her receipt and individual items. When they checked the steak, she said the system showed that it had been paid for.

The woman said a sheriff’s deputy then asked Walmart employees to pull up surveillance footage. According to her account, the video showed her scanning the items and the employee approaching her at the self-checkout. She said employees and the deputy concluded that she had paid for the steak and that a checkout-machine glitch may have caused the discrepancy.

“They were like, oh, she did pay for it. It just must be a glitch with the machine,” she said in the video. The woman said the deputy apologized afterward.

According to her account, she ultimately left with a $1,000 Walmart gift card after agreeing not to press charges, although she said she still intended to pursue the matter. As of publication, Walmart had not commented on the alleged incident.
