President Donald Trump criticized NBC’s Kristen Welker in a Sunday morning Truth Social post after she described his Republican primary endorsements as having “mixed results.” Welker made the remarks on NBC 4 Washington during the 6 a.m. ET hour while promoting that day’s episode of Meet the Press.
Welker said Trump would “loom large over these midterms” and noted that he had endorsed a slate of candidates. She added that he had “had some mixed results,” then pointed to the recent primary win of Sen. Darline Graham, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, who she said would face Dr. Annie Andrews in South Carolina.
Trump rejected that characterization. He wrote that Welker, whom he called the unpopular “Hostess” of what he described as “Meet the Fake Press,” had stated that he had “mixed results” on endorsements even as he cited recent wins by Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei.
Trump posted endorsement figures and said he would report Welker to the FCC
In the same post, Trump said those recent wins “stand at 100% for the U.S. Senate, and 98% for the U.S. House, recently and over the longterm.” He asked how anyone could be allowed to make the “mixed results” claim while working on “freely given Public Airwaves.” He attached results and wrote, “Because of this purposeful inaccuracy, she will be reported to the FCC for rebuke or punishment.”
The graphic posted with his comments was labeled “Endorsement Record in Republican Primaries” and “2026 Record.” It showed a combined figure of 98.35 percent, stating that 239 of 243 endorsed candidates won. It listed the U.S. House at 98 percent, or 215 of 219, and the U.S. Senate at 100 percent, or 24 of 24.
Trump also wrote that “the Radical Left News is going out of their way to harass, demean, and libel anything ‘TRUMP.’” He said their “new weapon” was to describe his “99% SUCCESS Rate on Endorsements, 100% on Senatorial Endorsements” as mixed or “not very good.” He called his record “the strongest Endorsement in the History of Politics.”
He said Darline Graham’s Senate run “was the biggest story in all of Politics, because she wasn’t expected to win,” and that after he endorsed her “she easily won,” but “the story of her Victory was hardly covered by anybody.” He also said he endorsed “the future Governor of Oklahoma, who was behind in every Poll,” that the candidate won, and that “the story was barely covered.”
Mediaite points out that Graham narrowly defeated Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) in a race closer than many experts had predicted. Trump’s post came about two months after he walked out of an interview with Welker. He later agreed to another interview with her and recently called into Meet the Press the morning after Lindsey Graham’s death. Trump has a history of publicly clashing with reporters, as when he told CNN’s Kristen Holmes to ‘be quiet’ during a White House exchange.
Trump wrote that “the Press is a Disgrace to our Nation” and said he hoped FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and “the fine people of his Commission” would “take this Threat to our Country very seriously.” An NBC News spokesperson told Mediaite, “Kristen is one of the best in the business and we stand by her.” Trump’s confrontations with the press often escalate quickly, as when he walked out of an interview after being challenged on rigged election claims.
