Texas Roadhouse has been on the receiving end of a lot of allegations about racist actions during food prep recently. After witnessing this across the internet, TikToker Sonya (redgirl566) took to the platform to share something that happened to her when she visited a branch in Dallas. Her TikTok post went on to rack up over 354K views, as everyone heard the Texas resident’s version of events about how a meal sent her to the hospital.
In the clip, Sonya shows her family, including her two daughters and one of her daughters’ boyfriends, happily grooving at the restaurant. She says, “When they tell you that they’re putting something in the food at Texas Roadhouse, believe them. This is me and my daughters and her boyfriend eating there, having a good time.”
Then Sonya alleged, “And as soon as I finished eating, I went to the car, my eyes started to swell up, and I had to be rushed to the hospital. They said it was some type of allergic reaction.” The video eventually cuts to clips of Sonya at the hospital, where the swelling in her face is visible, and her eye is watery. She ends with her judgment on the situation: “Now I know what it was.” Note: This is just her perspective, and it cannot be verified. However, her audience was up in arms.

Sonya’s viewers were angry, enough that some attacked her daughter’s white boyfriend in the comments. Many asked why she even went to the chain considering the allegations, so Sonya clarified, “I went there before the allegation started to happen. This video was taken in May.” One who had noticed the time frame noted, “Wow, this happened in May!!! They’ve been doing this sht. Sorry this happened to you.” Another simply wrote, “Evil people. They get away with everything.”
Per the NY Post, Texas Roadhouse and Logan’s Roadhouse have been facing intense pressure after a TikToker named Sannie Yeanay posted a video alleging that a Facebook group called “White and Proud” was targeting customers of color. The claim suggested that white servers were intentionally contaminating food by heading to a “blind spot” in the kitchen to lick their fingers, touch food, and spit on rolls.
Texas Roadhouse reportedly pushed back against these claims. In a statement, the company said, “At Texas Roadhouse, we are committed to creating an environment where every guest is treated with respect and hospitality. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or mistreatment of any kind.” The chain later released another statement on TikTok.
“We are aware of the video that is being shared with an accusation that has been made toward our restaurants,” the steakhouse said, per the NY Post. “We believe it to be completely unfounded and we take every accusation toward our brand seriously. We are investigating this alleged abhorrent behavior and remain committed to treating every guest with respect, dignity, and the Legendary Service they deserve.”
The backlash was swift, with many customers declaring they would never eat at the chain again. According to the Post, some commenters were particularly vocal about the company’s response. One user wrote, “Saying you believe it’s unfounded and then saying you’ll investigate is crazy. I saw the video and immediately was put off. There needs to be firings and a LOT of retraining.”
Another person claimed, “As a former cook at one of their locations, I can confirm 100% it’s true and goes on at all locations. It’s an open secret.” However, the company maintains that the entire ordeal is a fabrication. Texas Roadhouse told the NY Post that an investigation using “third-party firms” provided a conclusion.
“Our current investigation, along with many other outside sources, firmly point to this being an online hoax. There is no credible evidence of food tampering, and the Facebook post has since been deleted,” the chain stated. They added that several online publications have reported there is no credible evidence to support the claims and that users who amplified the story have begun to retract their posts.
As a part of a conversation about allergies, one commenter asked Sonya if she had eaten something new. Sonya insisted, “Absolutely not I’m in my 50s so I know what I can eat and can’t eat.” She also clarified in another comment that she only ate steak and mashed potatoes. However, she was reminded, “Allergies can happen in time in life. I use to not be allergic to shrimp but now I am.”
One TikToker noted that they would check for themselves. They wrote, “I’m going there this weekend order me a ribeye steak, baked potato, and a salad. I’m getting it tested.”
