A TikTok video from creator @rackksinmyypurple has sparked a massive conversation about the reality of working at Walmart, raking in over 480,000 views and thousands of comments (first covered by Daily Dot). The creator, who shared the video based on his own time working at the retail chain, identifies the cashier and Online Grocery Pickup roles as the two most difficult positions you can take.
When it comes to being a cashier, the creator considers it the absolute worst job at the store. He points to the repetitive nature of the work combined with a rigid set of workplace rules as the main culprits. He says, “You’re gonna be sitting there for eight hours straight doing not sh-t, but just listen to customers b—-ing complain while you’re scanning their f–king s–t.”
He notes that cashiers are not allowed to listen to music or use their phones during their shifts. On top of that, he mentions that bathroom breaks are strictly limited and you are under constant supervision. He adds, “Then you got two, three managers that are just breathing down your f–king neck.”
The recounting of his first-hand experience has struck a chord with social media users
He makes it clear that he thinks this kind of role is worse than other retail jobs, like working at a gas station, and he suggests avoiding cashier positions in any industry. The lack of autonomy and the constant stream of direct customer complaints seem to be the biggest factors in his negative assessment.

On the other hand, the creator describes the Online Grocery Pickup role as a bit more enjoyable, even calling it “the funniest job in the f—— world.” This position involves organizing and retrieving online orders from around the store, which means there is less direct interaction with customers and less intense managerial oversight.
Even so, it is not without its own set of headaches. Employees are not allowed to accept tips, and they still have to deal with people who get upset about how their groceries are handled. He notes, “People complain about the way you bag their f–king groceries.” Plus, if you drop an item from a delivery crate, you have to clean it up immediately or you might get coached by management.
The creator also gave an honorable mention to the team responsible for unloading delivery trucks. He describes this as the most physically taxing role in the store, comparing the intensity to working in a general warehouse.
The online reaction has been significant, with many people sharing their own experiences to confirm his claims. One commenter agreed that the customers are the hardest part of the cashier job, writing, “Cashier ain’t hard but dealing with the people is atrocious.” Another person shared that their partner has had a similar experience in the Online Grocery Pickup role, mentioning, “My girl work at ogp and constantly complaining.”
Not everyone agreed with his ranking, however, as one commenter suggested that being a cart attendant is the best option, writing, “Cart attendant the best one we sit around all day when we get it full inside.”
