Costco shoppers discover the display couch is half-price, then race to rent a U-Haul: ‘yesterday we found out’

Viewers started debating the couch's cleanliness

A TikTok video posted by @rafavictorazzi shows shoppers inside a Costco warehouse after they learned that a floor-model couch was being sold at a steep markdown. The poster wrote in the caption, “Never rented a uhaul so fast in our lives.” The clip later drew wide attention online.

On-screen text in the video reads, “Yesterday we found out that if you buy the display couch from Costco it will be half of the price.” The footage appears to show a woman with long dark hair, wearing a white top and a light pink skirt, arranging cushions on a large light beige sectional that looks like a display model.

A man in a dark blue hoodie and dark pants stands nearby in the opening scene, smiling and gesturing. The video has gained 8.4 million views, 531,100 likes, and more than 2,200 comments.

The camera then shows two empty orange flatbed carts of the kind Costco uses for large items. A man in a black t-shirt and grey sweatpants pushes one of the carts as the group gets ready to move the couch.

The video shows two men working together to lift a large section of the light-beige couch onto one of the orange carts. One of the men first appears in a dark blue hoodie and later appears in a black t-shirt and grey sweatpants. The woman from the opening scene also helps guide the furniture.

A large white skeleton decoration hangs from the ceiling in the background, which appears to be part of a seasonal display. After the main section is on the cart, the man in the black t-shirt and the woman push it down a wide warehouse aisle, with high ceilings and stacked merchandise visible around them.

Viewers focused less on the markdown and more on whether they would sit on a couch that had been used as a floor model. Some compared it to other used items people already accept, while others said they would not take the risk. Furniture purchases can sometimes lead to unexpected outcomes, as when a New York woman bought a $3,000 couch from Ashley Furniture only for her expectations to shatter within minutes.

Commenters also discussed timing. One person asked to be told when someone buys a display piece so they could return the next day for a newer floor model. Another said they had bought display furniture before, washed every cover, and called it a strong purchase.

One commenter asked to be alerted so they could try the same tactic after a display model is sold. They wrote, “Can someone let me know when they are going to buy a display model so I can go the next day and get the newer display model.” Others focused on who had already sat on the couch. One person wrote, “Ah yes. A couch filled with thousands of strangers farts, sweat, boogers and body oil.”

Another compared the concern to buying a used car. They wrote, “People talking about “people sat on it” m–f I got a used car with 80k miles of someone else’s farts.” Some pointed to other used spaces people accept without the same hesitation. One commenter wrote, “People won’t buy a Costco couch because it has been on display, but will sleep comfortably in that hotel bed.”

Not every reaction was joking. One person described a past purchase that went badly. They wrote, “I once bought a display price of furniture and little did I know it actually had bed bugs hiding in it. Never again will I ever buy furniture that was on display lol.” Costco shoppers often debate the cleanliness of display items, but concerns about product safety also arise, as a San Francisco woman discovered a product was making her sick for weeks.
