Woman buys the viral Rawcliffe sectional from Ashley Furniture because it was washable. Then the regret hit immediately: ‘This isn’t even all of it’

Her living room turned into a disaster

A TikTok creator @livingonlegacy said she bought an Ashley Furniture Rawcliffe sectional after being influenced by how huge, comfy, and washable it looked. She said she chose it because her household has dogs and toddlers, and she wanted something that would hold up well.

In a TikTok video that has drawn 1.9 million views, 29,800 likes, and over 7,100 comments, she said that overall, the couch had held up until she tried washing all of the pillowcase covers and couch cushion covers for the first time. She said she then had so much regret.

She panned across her living room, which she showed covered in large piles of dark brown, fluffy stuffing. “This isn’t even all of it,” she said, then walked the camera to more piles, extra cushions by a fireplace, and pillow inserts near a staircase.

She said she tried to keep the stuffing separate, so she would know how much went back into each pillow. She added that there was no better way to do it, that she was in over her head, and that she wanted to give up. She asked whether this is how they get people to buy an entirely new couch and keep spending money with them.

Having major regret at this moment… but at least my couch is going to smell amazing if I can ever get it all put back together #ashleyfurniture #rawcliffesectional #cleaningday

In a follow-up video on TikTok replying to a commenter, she said she had torn apart the entire Rawcliffe sectional to wash everything and had major regret the day before. She said it actually came together beautifully after she and her husband spent about two hours restuffing it. The stress of a disappointing furniture purchase can lead to dramatic reactions, as when a woman returned to TJ Maxx for a marked-down item.

She explained that the project started after she washed a blanket with Mississippi Candle Company Saltwater Sol Liquid Laundry Detergent and her entire house smelled amazing for weeks. She said all of the cushions unzip, so she decided to wash the pillowcases, backs, and seats in her washing machine with that detergent.

She said it was an all-day project. She took out all the fluff, let the covers air dry, then restuffed everything. She said the couch is not perfect and is a little lumpy, but she thinks it will be fine in time once they sit on it more. She said the work had been done just the night before.

She said her entire house smells amazing and that she highly recommends the detergent. She said the couch looks like a brand new couch. She added that she washed almost every piece except the ottoman and the fixed back fabric, which cannot be washed.

She said most comments asked why she did not use a spot cleaner or a Bissell. She said she has had the couch for about a year and does use a spot cleaner for little spills, but she wanted a super fresh clean. She said she will not do this super frequently because it was a horrible job.

She said her point in the first video was to ask Ashley why the fluff is not enclosed with some kind of casing to make it easier. She said she will probably do it about once a year because it is a great little refresh, and it came back together overall pretty well.

Viewers focused on why she kept going after the first cushion and on whether the covers were meant to be fully washed. One commenter asked why she kept going after the first cushion. The creator replied, “Because I want my couch CLEAN… and it was a ton of work but now it’s fresh and clean and smells brand new, totally worth it.” Another commenter asked why she continued with all the remaining cushions after the first one.

One commenter wrote, “Ashley’s furniture is trash.” Another wrote, “Ashley furniture is my biggest regret too.” A commenter who said they sell furniture wrote, “ummm its not washable??? I sell furniture!!! its only washable if they are encased!!!” Frustration with Ashley Furniture purchases is a common theme, such as when a New York woman bought a $3,000 couch and her expectations shattered within minutes.

Another commenter wrote, “This is user error. The foam pillows are the only ones you can remove. The rest of them are not removeable. You have ruined your couch. If the insert is not enclosed it’s spot clean only.”

One commenter who said they own the same couch wrote, “I have this couch. We do this once a month, cause we have dogs. Love the sofa. But It’s absolutely a chore and we refuse to ever buy anything like this sectional again lol.”
