Leading up to the wedding, mother-in-law allegedly tells the bride she was putting on weight when she wasn’t. Then, on the day, the dress didn’t fit

British Content creator TXC recently shared a story of a mother-in-law who almost seemed to redefine how petty jealousy can be. TXC runs the account txcstoriesofficial, where she narrates user-submitted stories about toxic behaviors and incidents. This story was then shared on the creator’s Instagram and TikTok accounts, garnering over 179K views. The story revolved around a bride who alleged that her mother-in-law had secretly sabotaged her wedding dress.

TXC narrated, “When I bought my wedding dress, I invited my mother-in-law to every single fitting. So she was witness to it fitting perfectly every single time. Like a glove. Like it was made for me.” The bride and her husband, Luke, were saving for a house and living with the bride’s mother, so the mother-in-law allegedly insisted that the dress be kept at her house to avoid bad luck. “Something was screaming at me not to do it. I knew it was a bad idea, but I had no reason to say no,” TXC said.

As the bride picked and dropped both off, she thought, per TXC, that her mother-in-law “was being sneaky by getting a lift out of me every time.” Then the bride claimed, “In the weeks leading up to the wedding, she started telling me, putting on weight. And I would tell her, no, I’m not, because I genuinely wasn’t putting on any weight. But she’d say it so often that I actually ended up crying at one point. And then my wedding morning arrived. I put on the dress, and it didn’t fit.”

A gleeful witness

“Guess who was standing in the bridal suite watching the whole situation unfold?” TXC narrated. “My mother-in-law. And so I’m crying on the morning of my wedding, and she chooses that time to say to me, ‘See, I told you you was putting on weight.’” According to the bride’s submitted story, her mother eventually rushed out and bought a replacement “from a high street shop.” The bride thought it was beautiful. It just wasn’t her dream dress, and for her, the day was ruined.

Per TXC’s narration, Luke saw this and promised her a vow renewal a year later so she could wear her dress. When the time came, the bride took the dress to a seamstress to have it adjusted. The story alleged that the seamstress said, “This is gonna be easy because it’s been taken in, hasn’t it?” 

According to TXC, the bride described the realization as, “A bomb of bloody clarity.” She had always felt her mother-in-law didn’t like her, citing past alleged comments such as, “The only thing you can give him that I can’t is sex,” and, “Most important woman in a man’s life will always be his mom.” Of course, TXC was just narrating the submitted story. We don’t know who the user is and can’t verify their claims.

TXC said that the bride was determined to get even. With a friend, she used Luke’s voice notes to create a convincing voice clone with AI. On the morning of the vow renewal, the mother-in-law received a call from an unknown number. TXC said, “On the other end was my husband’s voice clone. He said, ‘Mom, I’m not going to the renewal. In fact, I want a divorce. I’m just gonna leave her standing there, and I want you to come and meet me.”

According to the post, the mother-in-law was directed to a restaurant across London, only to be met by a waiter who handed her an envelope. Inside was a piece of the dress and a note explaining the Bride’s setup. The bride said she got her revenge and got to wear her dream dress, and her mother-in-law couldn’t say a thing without giving herself away.

The internet had plenty to say about the story. One Instagram user noted, “Chefs kiss on the revenge but I would be telling my husband exactly what she did and I would be no contact forever. You don’t come back from that.” A TikToker commented, “What a vile, jealous woman, to go to that length to try and stop your wedding to her son…because that was her goal.”

Signs of this jealousy can range from being two-faced or critical to acting like they are married to their son. The experts suggest that saving such a relationship requires patience, open communication, and setting healthy boundaries.
