G.I. Joe: Retaliation Comes Back To Life With A New International Trailer

It seems like forever since Paramount Pictures announced that it was pushing the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation back nine months so that it could undergo a 3D conversion. Now, with almost five months left to go until it hits US theaters, a new international trailer for the film has hit the Web and it still looks like an explosion-filled fiesta.

In the sequel to the 2009 original, members of the G.I. Joe team are attacked and left for dead. Framed for treason by the newly released Cobra Commander, who is controlling the United States government from behind the scenes, the team puts together a desperate plan to take back the United States; all with the help of the original G.I. Joe, General Joseph Colton.

Directed by Step Up 3D‘s Jon M. Chu, G.I. Joe Retaliation stars franchise newcomer Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Channing Tatum (reprising the role of Cpt. Duke Hauser from the first film), and Bruce Willis as General Joseph Coulton. Rounding out the cast are D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, and Ray Stevenson.

There may be a few extra shots thrown into the new trailer, but it’s basically still the same. However, I’m surprised at how much I’m still interested in seeing this film. I wasn’t a big fan of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, but I’ll pay for almost anything that has Bruce Willis kicking ass in it.

Pushing a film’s release date by nine months is a very risky move. Much of the marketing was well underway when the announcement was made and, over time, many potential moviegoers can lose interest. We’ll have to wait and see if it was worth the wait.

G.I. Joe Retaliation is set to hit theaters in 3D on March 29, 2013.
