Details of Billy Bob Thornton’s next stint in the director’s chair, Jayne Mansfield’s Car, have been very quiet since announced nearly 2 months ago. Now however it has Robert Duvall attached to star in a significant role and he also gave us some more plot details.

In talking to EW, Duvall announced:

It’s another Southern tale. It puts Tennessee Williams in the back seat — it’s that brilliant. It’s about a guy in between WWI and WWII who raises a family after his wife left him for an Englishman and moved to England. When the wife dies, she asks to be brought back to Alabama to be buried, and at that point the character hasn’t seen her in 20 or 30 years. The two families — her original family she abandoned and her English family — meet and then things get really interesting.

We’re not sure yet as to how this fits in with the title, Jayne Mansfield’s death was a very famously reported car crash and it will be interesting to see how they work that into the plot, if they even do work it in at all. Duvall has also said that Billy Bob Thornton will star in the film too, which is said to begin shooting this summer.
