According to a report from Deadline, James McAvoy is in talks to join DreamWorks’ WikiLeaks film. If he signs on, he’ll play Daniel Domscheit-Berg, WikiLeaks boss Julian Assange’s second in command. Domscheit-Berg also wrote a book called Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World’s Most Dangerous Website, which the film is partially based on.
Set to be directed by Bill Condon, and scripted by Josh Singer, the untitled film already has Benedict Cumberbatch set to star as Assange. Should McAvoy join, that would be quite a powerful duo in what is sure to be a very compelling film. This is one story that I’m very eager to see hit the big screen and with McAvoy and Cumberbatch in the front seats, I think it can turn out to be something very special.
Of course, the Assange story is so special that it’s being spread out over three films, with Universal working on their own Alex Gibney helmed documentary and HBO working with Megan Ellison on their own version.
Between the three, the one that James McAvoy is in talks to join does sound the most interesting, though I’ve always enjoyed Gibney’s documentaries, I find them to be thoroughly fascinating. Like I said above though, McAvoy and Cumberbatch make for a very exciting pairing and I’m eager to see how this film will continue to develop.
