Two More TV Spots For The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

We're entering the home stretch now with merely two weeks let to go before the first part of Peter Jackson's epic adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit is unleashed. At this point, you could well be sick of the flood of marketing materials for the film, wishing instead that it would just open already, but you can be sure that we'll be seeing lots more as we count down these last few days.

Today, thanks to Comic Book Movie, we have yet another pair of TV spots for your viewing pleasure. The first doesn’t feature much in the way of new footage other than another glimpse of Frodo. However, the second comes with something that fans have been waiting a long time for: a first glimpse of the evil dragon Smaug. Granted, it’s just a small passing glance, but at least we finally have a tiny notion of what he’ll look like.

Smaug is, as most of you well know, the dragon that takes over the Dwarves’ home, which includes their vast collection of treasure. The character is being voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, who is also portraying him through the use of motion-capture technology. Cumberbatch may not be a household name, at least not here in the states, but he has shown that he is quite an actor, particularly with his performance on Sherlock (where he ironically co-stars with Martin Freeman, who plays Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit trilogy).

After the film premiered in Wellington, New Zealand a couple of days ago, we started getting reports that the movie is just as good as people were hoping it would be. Hopefully we’ll get even more reports soon as the film starts screening for critics in the next few days.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey finally arrives in theaters on December 14th.

Check out the TV spots below and let us know what you think in the comments.
