The search for Zack Snyder’s Superman is now over. Unfortunately, fan favorite Jon Hamm did not land the role, instead it went to Henry Cavill, a relatively unknown actor. Cavill has had roles in Stardust, The Tudors, and he auditioned for Christopher Nolan’s Batman. He’s also add some experience with Superman before as he was close to landing the role in Superman Returns. Cavill will be in a few upcoming films as well, including The Cold Light Of Day and Immortals, so hopefully moviegoers will become more familiar with him in the near future.
So there you have it, Henry Cavill will be Superman, it’ll be interesting to see how people react to this. I was rooting for Hamm as were a lot of people but the studio wanted to go with a younger actor, someone unknown, which they got in Mr. Cavill.
I haven’t really seen any of Cavill’s work so I can’t really comment on this but with Snyder directing and Nolan producing, you can be sure that a lot of time and thought went into this decision. I trust both Snyder and Nolan as filmmakers so I remain hopeful that the film will turn out well, or at least better than Superman Returns.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.
The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated, “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals,” opening this fall.
Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
