With the rumored casting of Django himself as villain Electro for upcoming sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2 doing the internet rounds, Jamie Foxx has once again hinted that he’s in the running to star. Speaking out recently, he had a few words to say on the character and his meeting with director Marc Webb and Spider-Man himself, Andrew Garfield:

“I met with the director, Marc Webb, I met with Andrew Garfield, and we talked. I think Electro will be an exciting character to play because he’s a… genius electrician-type person, and he gets the short end of the stick from the whole world, and the next thing you know he turns it on.”

In perhaps one of Marvel’s less creative origin stories, Electro (real name: Max Dillion) acquires his powers after being struck by lightning whilst working on a power line. That’s it. Just… struck by lightning? No, um… getting caught in a weird machine… or bitten by something… no? Right. Okay, then. Of course, in the Marvel Universe, Electro is propositioned by various super-villains who want him to join their ranks, though he eventually decides to become a problem for Spider-Man.

Should Jamie Foxx land this role (and we can see no reason why he shouldn’t), he’ll join newcomers Dane DeHaan (Harry Osborn) and Shailene Woodley (Mary-Jane Watson), along with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone (who will reprise their roles as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively).

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to hit theaters May 2, 2014.
