After MGM’s financial troubles, a production strike, a possible film relocation, and surgery for a perforated ulcer, we finally have a production date set for The Hobbit, directed by Peter Jackson. Hit the jump to find out when it will all start.

According to the film’s production company 3foot7 Ltd, production is set to begin on March 21st.

An excerpt in the press release reads,

This date has been chosen following practical considerations of the filming schedule requirements, actor availability and the NZ seasons. Shooting will take place at Stone Street Studios in Miramar and on location around New Zealand.

Peter Jackson added,

Despite some delays we are fully back on track and very excited to get started.

The two films have a targeted release date of December 2012 and 2013.
