First Showing is reporting that Disney’s surprise animated hit Wreck-It Ralph will be getting a sequel, thanks to its glowing reviews and strong box office numbers. With many citing it as the best animated film of the year, the film has already pulled in $200 million worldwide and it’s still only a month into its release.

While nothing official has been confirmed just yet, star John C. Reilly has spoken up about the possibility of a sequel, saying the following:

“They wouldn’t make [all that] merchandise, if [Disney] didn’t have plans for other [Wreck-it Ralph] stories. Some of the big muckety-muckets at the studio, who I just saw the other night, were like ‘We’re talking sequel!’ The movie made $150 million dollars in eleven days, it broke the box-office record for Disney animated movies on opening weekend. If that’s any indication that we’ll be doing a sequel… I bet we’ll be doing a sequel.”

If you need further proof, director Rich Moore also had some positive and hopeful things to say about a sequel:

“At dinner last night we were already talking about [the sequel]. So we’re talking ‘What could do they do? What kinda of things could happen? Who could be in it?’” Moore also said that everyone’s favorite Italian plumber would make an appearance too. “We’ll really come up with something good for Mario to do,” said the director.

When asked if he would direct the sequel, Moore said: “I love the group, I’d be crazy to ask someone else to take the reigns.” And while again, that’s not official confirmation, the fact that he’s on board and interested means that the mouse house will likely bring him back.

So, it seems that all the pieces are in place to get a Wreck-It Ralph sequel off the ground and now all we need is the official go ahead from Disney, which should be coming shortly. Of course, when it arrives, we’ll be sure to let you know.

In the meantime though, let us know in the comments if you’d like to see a Wreck-It Ralph sequel.
