It was originally reported that the first chance to see the second trailer for Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel would be in the previews before The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, but Warner Brothers has released it on their Youtube page a few days early, meaning we have it here for your viewing pleasure.

This second trailer has a lot more footage of the supporting cast than the first one, giving us the first real glimpses of parents Kevin Costner and Diane Lane, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and even brief looks at Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon. Another thing added in this trailer is some actual dialogue. The dialogue we hear makes it appear that the film is going to be even more heavily focused on the origin of Superman than was originally thought.

Furthermore, the trailer also emphasizes the man in Superman, not hiding the fact that a good portion of the film will likely involve his internal struggle. One scene shown in the trailer has a young Clark Kent being told he has to keep his super-side a secret, to which he responds: “What was I supposed to do? Just let them die?”

We do get to see some more of Clark when he’s actually Superman as well. The first trailer only had a brief clip of him soaring upward at the end. That same footage is used in this new trailer, but it also adds a bit more of the costumed hero.

It’s been said countless times before, but I’ll say it again: Snyder and Christopher Nolan is as perfect a team for a Superman film as can be imagined. There are few directors as capable at handling the spectacle of such a film as Snyder, and by adding in the marvelous storytelling ability of Nolan, it’ll be hard to go wrong.

The character has been in need of a big screen redemption since Superman Returns, which was largely considered a bust. If this trailer is any indication, Warner should have an extremely successful film on their hands, and Superman will again have his mass audience, potentially rivaling the fan base Batman has gained.

Man of Steel hits theaters June 14, 2013.
