Whereas most actors would be quietly annoyed about the fact that a younger, arguably hotter and more culturally relevant star was, like, taking on their most iconic role, Kirsten Dunst – who played supportive redhead Mary-Jane Watson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy – has admitted she’s pleased that Shailene Woodley is getting to grips with the character for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Here’s what Dunst had to say:
“I really like her too, a lot. I’ve met her a few times and we’ve talked about health foods, we know some of the same people, she’s really into finding springs and natural water and she’ll go get her water and things like that. I’ve done that before, and we’ve talked about that. I think she’s a sweetheart and such a good actress. I’m happy. If I had to pick someone, I’m happy she’s following in my shoes.”
In what appears to be the dullest conversation ever to occur between two Hollywood stars, Dunst and Woodley have apparently met on a couple of occasions and have used the time to discuss health foods. Dunst also mentions that Woodley will “go get her [own] water”, which we’re sure was vital to her casting as Mary-Jane Watson. Can you imagine a Mary-Jane Watson who wasn’t into getting her own water? It doesn’t bear thinking about.
Shailene Woodley, of course, will be taking on the role of Andrew Garfield’s love interest once Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy is unfortunately bumped out of the picture. As of this moment, the plot for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 remains thin, though Jamie Foxx is in talks to star as villain Electro, and Martin Sheen is set to reprise his role as Uncle Ben.
Do you think Shailene Woodley will make a good Mary-Jane Watson? Do you like health foods? Will you get your own water? Say you will.
