Jonathan Levine’s newest genre-crossover, Warm Bodies, doesn’t hit theaters until February, but for those who simply can’t wait to see a scene from the film, the opening four minutes have hit the web.

This opening scene really feels a lot more like an extended trailer for the film rather than an actual scene, but that makes it a good one to release. We get to see quite a bit of R (Nicholas Hoult) as he explains the mindset of a zombie who wishes he wasn’t one of the undead. We also see the “bonies” and a guy tearing off his own face. Fairly terrifying in contrast to the humorous tone the rest of the scene has.

This seems like a strong opening for a film that I’m quite excited for. The premise is very interesting, and Levine proved with 50/50 that he’s excellent at mixing genres. If the quality posters that have been released and this scene are any indication, Warm Bodies ought to revolutionize the rom-zom genre. Or at least kick it off.

Warm Bodies hits theaters February 1, 2013.

Warm Bodies, written and adapted by Jonathan Levine from Isaac Marion’s novel, stars Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, John Malkovich, Analeigh Tipton, Dave Franco and Rob Corddry. This “zombie love story” stars Hoult as R, a zombie who falls in love with Julie after he eats her boyfriend’s brains and absorbs his memories. A genre-bending tale of love and transformation, Warm Bodies is a story about a boy who loves a girl… for more than just her body. (via First Showing)
