Tom Cruise is in final negotiations to star in Rock of Ages, an adaptation of a stage musical of the same name which tells the story of a group of 80’s rockers. Cruise will play Stacee Jaxx, whose big musical number will be Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive. Yes you just read that correctly. Tom Cruise will sing. Who knows how that will turn out.
The film and musical sound very much like musicals We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia! where the creators take the songs that they love and craft some vague form of plot around them regardless of quality and is just all about having a damn good time. The film is set to be directed by Adam Shankman who actually did a pretty decent job on directing the musical version of Hairspray for the screen and is set to start filming around May.
