Megan Ellison is still hard at work on Terminator 5 after snapping up the rights back in the Spring of 2011. As of yet, there hasn’t been too many concrete developments on the fifth entry in the mega-popular franchise but today, we can tell you that two writers have been hired to pen the project. Laeta Kalogridis, who wrote Shutter Island and Patrick Lussier, who wrote Drive Angry, will team up to write the film.

They may be an unlikely duo but Megan’s brother David already has them lined up to write another film, a sci-fi project that he’s working on. As well, Kalogridis is a close collaborator with James Cameron, having produced Avatar for him, so it’s easy to see why she was brought in. Does this mean Cameron is going to be involved in some capacity to? After all, he did direct the first two instalments in the franchise. Up until now he has denied all involvement and with production gearing up for Avatar 2 and 3, there’s no reason to doubt him. Who knows though, he may poke his head in somewhere to lend a helping hand.

Of course, the biggest unknown is if Arnold Schwarzenegger, at the old age of 65, can still pull off the character. I was a bit skeptical at first but his newest film, The Last Stand, has been getting pretty solid reviews so far so he may still have what it takes. And besides, we haven’t seen a proper Terminator film since T2 (T3 was awful and I’d rather forget it), so I wouldn’t mind seeing a return to form for the series. If Terminator 5 can give me that then I say bring it on.

What do you think? Can Terminator 5 be a return to form for the series? Can Arnie still pull off the role? Let us know in the comments below.
