Game Of Thrones’ Carice Van Houten Joins Bill Condon’s Wikileaks Movie

Quite a few high profile films are starting to pick up momentum during these slow winter months and one of those projects is Bill Condon's currently untitled Wikileaks movie. Quite a few high profile films are starting to pick up momentum during these slow winter months and one of those projects is Bill Condon’s currently untitled Wikileaks movie. Already set to star Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange, Daniel Bruhl as his former right hand man, Daniel Domscheit-Berg, and Alicia Vikander as Domscheit-Berg’s girlfriend, DreamWorks is assembling a pretty appealing cast for their film.

Today, we have another casting addition to report on as Game of Thrones‘ Carice Van Houten has signed on as Birgitta Jonsdottir, “an Icelandic journalist who became spokesman for the website, and has gone on to be a MP in her home country.” For those who don’t recognize Van Houten’s name, she plays the sorceress Melisandre in HBO’s hit show and she also had roles in Hollywood productions like Valkyrie and Repo Men. Of course, she also starred in Paul Verhoeven’s Black Book, which picked up some pretty strong reviews stateside.

The film will be adapted from two books, Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website by Daniel Domscheit-Berg and David Leigh and Luke Harding’s WIkiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy. Though exact plot details haven’t been revealed yet, we’ve been told that it will follow “Julian Assange and the setting up of WilkiLeaks, as the non-profit organization came to be in 2006 and has gone onto leak a significant number of anonymous, corporate and government documents from around the world to the public.”

With Cumberbatch and Condon leading the charge on this one, I think we have a very promising film on our hands. The story is one that is sure to intrigue and Cumberbatch is absolutely brilliant. With a (mostly) competent director steering him and a solid supporting cast at his side, I think DreamWorks’ currently untitled WikiLeaks movie has a lot of potential.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to seeing the story of Julian Assange on the big screen?
