Mark Wahlberg Gets A Pump In New Pain & Gain TV Spot

Pain & Gain marks a lot of milestones for Michael Bay. It's his first movie since The Rock to cost under $100 million, it's his first movie since 2005 that doesn't feature cars turning into robots, and best of all it's his first movie in a long time that looks like it will actually be fun to watch.

Pain & Gain marks a lot of milestones for Michael Bay. It’s his first movie since The Rock to cost under $100 million. It’s his first movie since 2005 that doesn’t feature cars turning into robots. But best of all, it’s his first movie in a long time that looks like it will actually be fun to watch.

The first trailer for the film was pretty awesome, and now a new TV spot has been released showing more of the same. This spot is a lot lighter on the plot side and heavier on the humor, while still showing a lot of muscled and bikini-clad flesh.

Mark Wahlberg attempts to settle Dwayne Johnson’s fears with the line “I’ve watched a lot of movies Paul, I know what I’m doing,” which is a feeling that any fan of action movies can relate to. Wahlberg also attempts to alleviate some stress by getting a quick pump at the end of the trailer.

While Wahlberg may not be known as a comedic actor (his role in Ted did nothing to change that) he’s shown he can be absolutely hilarious when he wants to. He was great in The Other Guys, and despite not being a comedic film, his scenes in The Departed always give me a good laugh. It looks like Pain & Gain has the potential to be his funniest film yet though.

The film is based on articles by Pete Collins chronicling the story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.

Starring alongside Wahlberg and Johnson are Anthony Mackie, Rob Corddry, Ed Harris, Rebel Wilson, Ken Jeong, Tony Shaloub, Michael Rispoli, and Bar Paly. The film hits theaters April 26th.
