Rosario Dawson is yet another actress that has begun to work a lot, and then not always on the most convincing projects. This week, she’s been added to the cast of Atom Egoyan’s thriller-ish Queen Of The Night, playing an investigator opposite Ryan Reynolds.

Queen Of The Night has Reynolds starring as a man who comes to believe that his abducted daughter is still alive. He presumably will share this information with Dawson, who will initially not believe him but then come to realize that a man with abs like that must be right. And so, the chase is on!

I might sound facetious, but I feel facetious. I mean, I like Reynolds, but the plot as it stands sounds generic and predictable. I would love to see these two in a really dynamic film. Unless Egoyan has some interesting twists and clever cinematography up his sleeve for Queen Of The Night, I’m not holding my breath.

Dawson has had some interesting roles, but she seems to be taking everything on offer right now. She’s playing a psychiatrist in Danny Boyle’s Trance, which looks amazing but still puts Dawson in the sexy/skeptical official category. She also has a further five films coming out this year, including Chavez, Gimme Shelter, and Parts Per Billion, and is filming the newest Sin City entry.  She’s worked a lot in the past few years, but I can only attest to having heard of one or two film that were actually noteworthy. Which is a shame, since she’s a pretty damn good actress when given the chance.

Maybe I’m jumping the gun on this one though. Egoyan directed the nominally interesting Chloe, with Liam Neeson and Amanda Seyfried, and wrote the screenplays for Where The Truth Lies and The Sweet Hereafter. He might be able to do something quite interesting with the story of a man and his abducted daughter. We’ll have to wait and see.

Queen Of The Night will start shooting next month, with a cast that also includes Scott Speedman and Mireille Enos.
