Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead remake has been boasting a bevy of marketing material highlighting the fact that we’re in for a no-holds-barred, stomach churning gore-fest to challenge even the bravest of horror fans, so I’ve been giddily excited for April 12th to say the least. From tidbits like 50,000 gallons of blood being used in one day to the film using absolutely no CGI, practical horror fans like myself are already thinking this remake is going to be something special. But as a true gore-seeker, always looking to see how directors are willing to push the appropriate envelope, today’s news comes as the most exciting of all.
Taking to Twitter, Fede Alvarez replied to a tweet confirming Evil Dead received a NC-17 rating on the first go around, ultimately being cut down so theaters could show it. Here’s the tweet itself so you can read the conversation:

A bombshell like this all but validates every fanboy’s dream of an even more violent and even more grotesque trip to the woods, attacking the material with a brand new crazy vision that might even trump Raimi’s campy style. We’ve already seen all the tongue-splitting and blood vomiting, but people closely associated with the film all assured fans we haven’t seen anything just yet. Well, considering an NC-17 rating was given, one can only imagine just how much more gooey material awaits us viewers, but you bet your ass I’m even more excited to find out – and I didn’t even think that was possible.
Oh yeah, not to mention this also pretty much solidifies an Unrated Director’s cut when the film is release on Blu-Ray/DVD, making die-hard fans play the waiting game once again even after the R-Rated cut is released. I don’t look forward to my mind spinning feverishly just trying to imagine what the hell could have been so vile it made an already demented film that much worse.
At this point, I’m not sure what else to say. I’m all but sold on the fact that we’re in for a remake like we’ve never seen before, being a true cinematic treat instead of a rehashed waste of time. Trust me, Alvarez’s Evil Dead comes out April 12th, 2013, and if you consider yourself a horror fan even in the least, you better be there.
