Tom Hardy To Star In Steven Knight’s Locke

Lately it seems like we can't go a whole week without another role being announced for Tom Hardy. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining in any way. In fact, I couldn't be more excited that we're going to see Hardy in a ton of films in the coming years. He's already lined up roles in Animal Rescue, Child 44, Everest, and the video game adaptation Splinter Cell. Throw in his Mad Max movie Fury Road which he spent most of 2012 shooting and there will be no shortage of Hardy on the big screen in the very near future. But before he starts filming any of his new projects he'll get to work on Locke, which shoots later this month in London.

Lately it seems like we can’t go a whole week without another role being announced for Tom Hardy. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining in any way. In fact, I couldn’t be more excited that we’re going to see Hardy in a ton of films in the coming years. He’s already lined up roles in Animal Rescue, Child 44, Everest, and the video game adaptation Splinter Cell. Throw in Mad Max: Fury Road which he spent most of 2012 shooting and there will be no shortage of Hardy on the big screen in the very near future. But before he starts filming any of his future projects he’ll get to work on Locke, which shoots later this month in London.

The film is directed by Steven Knight whose directorial debut, Hummingbird, will be released later this year. What’s most interesting about the film isn’t the story, but the way which Knight is planning on telling it, as there’s word that the entire 90-minute film will be shot in real time. I’d say it’s safe to assume that the movie will be shot using a multiple-camera approach, similar to the way most sitcoms are shot, but who knows, maybe we’ll have an extremely long single shot that puts Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity to shame.

Knight’s original screenplay tells the story of a man’s life unraveling in a 90-minute race against time. It follows Ivan Locke (Hardy), a man who has everything going for him. He’s got the perfect family, dream job, and tomorrow should be the crowning moment of his career. But that all changes when one phone call forces him to make a decision that will put everything on the line.

Sounds pretty interesting, right?

What do you think of Hardy as the lead in Locke? What about the idea of shooting in real time? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
