New Wolfenstein Domain Registered

CSC Corporate Domains (a website registration service company commonly used by publishers who need to reserve a URL but wish to keep their unannounced games under the radar) registered the domain wolfenstein-spiel.com last week, presumably for Wolfenstein developer id Software’s parent company ZeniMax Media.

Interestingly, the new Wolfenstein domain was registered on the same day that CSC Corporate Domains registered the Legacy of Kain-related website. While the two domains share the same registration date (and registrar) that registration most likely belongs to Square Enix, as they are the IP holder for Legacy of Kain.

At any rate, we have not seen an official announcement for a new Nazi-themed first-person shooter from ZeniMax Media. The last game in the series, appropriately titled Wolfenstein, was c0-developed by id Software, Raven Software, Pi Studios, and Endrant Studios, and was released in 2009 with Activision handling publishing duties on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The game received generally positive reviews, but it failed to live up to its sales expectations.

Supporting the new Wolfenstein game theory is a report last week by VG247 who found that composer Julian Beeston had listed his involvement with a Wolfenstein 2013 game on his online resume. The resume was quickly changed after the discovery to remove all traces of the game, and we have not heard anything about it since.

Taking into account both the recent website registration and Beeston’s original resume, it certainly looks like a new Wolfenstein game will soon be announced. The only real question is if it will be for the current generation consoles or the next-generation Xbox and PlayStation, which are expected to be released later this year.
