When it comes to creating a fairytale adaptation, action seems to be the most important ingredient and Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Slayer is packing a good dose of it in its new trailer. While the previous trailer leaned more on the humorous side, this new footage gears toward an action-packed adventure with a hint of romance.

The movie features Nicholas Hoult as the titular character. Hoult has been exploring different roles lately, with his previous performance as a mutant in Singer’s X-Men First Class and his role as the hilarious zombie in Warm Bodies. Here, the young actor is playing a farmhand who unintentionally creates a passage between mankind and the legendary giants. An ancient war brews between both parties, as the giants try to reclaim their former land. And our dear Jack finds himself fighting for his life, his beautiful princess and her kingdom.

It’s all love and war with Jack the Giant Slayer and the new trailer shows us the action the movie has in store for us. Despite the fact that Singer’s retelling has a strong lead and it consists of secondary characters portrayed by excellent actors like Ian McShane, Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci, I can’t help but to feel worried of its outcome due to some of the weak elements displayed in the preview. The movie seems to lack a certain level of energy that can create anticipation. So far, nothing exactly stands out in the trailer.

Nevertheless, I shouldn’t completely write it off yet. Perhaps Singer might just surprise us with his adaptation. After all, I’ve enjoyed some of his previous films, they usually present a solid and stylish direction that help to convey their strong ideas, so it is likely that we may see that with this one.

Jack the Giant Slayer hits theaters on March 1st. Until then, check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts.
