CBS has just announced that Dylan McDermott will star opposite Toni Collette (United States of Tara) in its pilot for Hostages, a drama created by Jerry Bruckheimer.
The CBS drama pilot will follows the choices Ellen, an accomplished surgeon (Collett), makes when her family is taken hostage after she is chosen to operate on the President of the Unites States. McDermott will play the rugged FBI agent Duncan who is at the center of the political conspiracy. Details on which side McDermott is fighting for are being kept a secret for now, but either way, he seems to do his best work in law related roles. The show will naturally be set in Washington D.C.
Dylan McDermott, who’s primarily a television actor, hasn’t really found a place for himself since his long running TV drama The Practice ended back in 2004. Most recently he had an impressive but short lived role on FX’s horror anthology American Horror Story and before that he played a convincingly menacing undercover cop on TNT’s Dark Blue – also created by Bruckenheimer.
In between those roles he played a smattering of supporting characters in movies like The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Campaign. McDermott is a completely underrated actor in my opinion and I’m crossing my fingers that this pilot will see the light of day.
The pilot was written and will be directed by Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow) alongside Bruckheimer as a project for Warner Bros. Television. The show is based on an Israeli show that was never produced, originally by Alon Aranya, Rotem Shamir and Chayim Sharir. Shamir and Sharir will also co-produce the project.
