During the almost entirely 3DS-focused Nintendo Direct presentation this morning the company’s president, Satoru Iwata, revealed that Camelot Software Planning is currently developing a new game in the Mario Golf franchise for Nintendo’s handheld, titled Mario Golf: World Tour.

Mario Golf: World Tour will feature both traditional golf course designs and some inspired by the Mushroom Kingdom (meaning you will have to contend with a massive Gomba, who apparently lives next to one of the holes). The full roster of playable characters was not revealed in the announcement, however, we do know that Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, and Bower are all in the game.

Iwata also noted that Camelot has developed a “straightforward” control system for the 3DS game that “anyone can enjoy”, but also offers a “deeper experience” for golf fans. Naturally, Mario Golf: World Tour‘s control scheme will include the series trademark Super Shots.

Similar to Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Nintendo did not announce an exact release date for Mario Golf: World Tour, however, they did promise that the title will arrive on the 3DS sometime this Summer.

We will keep an eye out for an additional information about Mario Golf: World Tour and let you know as soon as know anything is announced.
